[Scan-DC] Hazmat 728 in service

Fire Chief Richard Bowers is proud to announce the in service date of the second of two Hazardous Material units on a Spartan Gladiator chassis, with a 4 person L-shaped command cab.  It is equipped with a Hackney beverage style body with a pinched frame. This 2007 vehicle is stock number 8-07-7076 and labeled with the Council of Governments numbering system as HM728.  HM728 was placed into service on Sunday October 11, 2009.  

    The unit is powered by a 425 HP Series 60 Detroit Diesel motor with a Jake Brake through an Allison 4000 Series EVS Transmission.  

It has a four person Command Cab w/ desktop, cupboards, research area, charging systems for all electronic monitoring equipment and storage capacity.  

It is equipped with an Onan 25 KW PTO driven generator, telescoping Nightscan light tower, two (2) remote controlled automatic awnings and an electric stairway with handrails that permits safe and easy access to the coffin compartment area.    

Latest generation safety features include Roll Stability Control, passenger restraint technology and barricade style safety striping. 

Hazardous materials equipment includes laptop computers with extensive research capacity, weather station capabilities, overpack drums, non-sparking tools, 60 minute SCBA, four (4) - four (4) hour re-breathers, NFPA compliant Chemical Protective Clothing=2
0(CPC), GCMS for air monitoring, and the only propane flaring unit capable of burning off 525 gallons of propane per hour in the National Capital Region.
