Transportation Security Detail Exercises & Training

WHEN: Thursday, September 10, and Friday, September 11, 2009

                                    6:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

WHERE: Montgomery County METRO and MARC train stations (on platforms,
above and below ground, and riding on the trains) and other undisclosed
locations throughout the county.

                                    Truck inspections conducted at
undisclosed areas throughout the county.

WHAT: High visibility presence of uniformed law enforcement
officers engaged in detection and deterrent terrorism training exercises.

Montgomery County Police want to assure our community members that
there has been no intelligence developed that there are any terrorist
threats to our county at this time. These exercises are planned and
conducted on a regular basis.

During the above listed time period, approximately 150 members
of Montgomery County Police, Sheriff's Office, Fire Marshal's Office,
Rockville City Police, Gaithersburg Police, Takoma Park Police, Maryland
National Capital Park Police, and Federal Air Marshals & Behavior Detection
Officers, will be conducting combined training exercises that will make them
highly visible to community members, especially those using METRO and MARC
trains. In addition to regular uniformed officers, K-9 teams and SWAT
officers will be part of the exercise.

This training is designed to duplicate the type of response that
could be used to detect and prevent terrorist activity in our area. Again,
these are tests of deployment and training, not a response to any identified
security threat.

***An opportunity for video for media will be provided on Thursday,
September 10, at 7:30 a.m. at the Shady Grove Metro Station in Rockville.
Contact the Media Services Division if you are interested in
participating.***
