Blame it on me.

On Friday I bought a Perseus software-defined radio 
(www.microtelecom.it/perseus), and severe weather has been following me ever 
since. I did get to play with it for a few hours last night inbetween 
thunderstorms out in Shenandoah County, and it is COOL. You can record up to 
1.6 MHz of radio spectrum to disk and play it back later with full tuning 
and demodulation capabilities. No more missing the action on one frequency 
just because you were listening to another. It's sort of like TiVo for the 
radio spectrum. The downside is that a disk file containing 30 seconds of 
1.6 MHz bandwidth is about 300 MB!

No doubt this is just the start. A couple of years from now you will 
probably be able to record the entire 700 & 800 MHz public safety bands, and 
if there's a major event, you can play back all the activity on all the 
frequencies and all the talk groups at a later time and listen at your 
leisure.

Amazing.
