This building is basically in my "significant other" 's back yard, on Piney Branch just east of University... we were out to dinner when the fire broke out, but got back to her place at around 8, 20 mins or so into it... firefighting opns were still taking place and Jeff is right, there was heavy black smoke all over the area... Piney Br Road was completely blocked with fire apparatus from Mtgy and PG. DFRS media hotline says about 75 ffs on the scene. Moira took over 50 pix, I have them on a CD but haven't really looked at them yet... there were at least 3 aerial ladders / towers working, 2 in front, one in back. Fire apt was on 12th floor at the rear (address 8830 Piney Branch Rd, I think the bldg is Pineway Towers condos. Her brother said that flames were rolling out of the balcony of the fire apt before we got there, and of course he couldn't find her camera... he saw & heard firefighters (also maybe civilians?) breaking glass out of apt & stairway windows. DFRS media hotline recording (240/777-2442) says that 9th floor and below are now being re-occupied (11 pm).
