[Scan-DC] Scanner Recomendations

I remember when the '96 first came out, there were reported problems about
malfunctioning volume and squelch pots (potentiometers). Many were
reporting that the only way to avoid down the road problems was to adjust
the volume/squelch by properly grasping them with the thumb, pointer, and
index fingers and turning, not by sliding the index finger across the top as
many do (including myself). I don't know if the pot problems were bad pots,
or bad circuit board connections, but either way, it sounds like yours may
have finally given up the ghost in that area.

Yup, mine is a Pro-96. I could add that I'm pretty sure the lack of volume
is not related to an antenna problem, because the scanner latches onto
signals just fine even when the volume dropouts occur. I assume wiggling
the antenna is not directly affecting the antenna, but probably the circuit
board.
