EFFECTIVE DATE: May 14, 2009

Frederick County (MD) and Loudoun County have moved to the use of COG
unit radio identifiers. Both Departments will be using the approved
COG unit identifiers with several notable exceptions for each
Department. Furthermore for Frederick County, the use of the
identifiers will be limited to mutual aid calls to COG jurisdictions.
Frederick County (MD) will be retaining several non-standard unit
types and will employ an alternate numbering system for stations with
multiple units of the same type. This system will retain the ability
to distinguish variations of a unit type via the identifier. Rescue
Engines and Engine Tankers are examples of the unit variation that
fall inside this category.

Loudoun County will be also retaining several unit types that have
been eliminated from the COG agreement as well as utilizing an
alternate numbering system for stations with multiples of a unit type
such as multiple EMS units or engines. Loudoun has retained the terms
“Wagon,” “Jeep,” “Reserve,” “SERV,” and other IDs that are unique to
Loudoun. For multiple units of the same type from the same station,
Loudoun has retained numerical suffixes, rather than using letters.
Example: A6252 instead of A625B.
Loudoun County units on mutual aid into other COG jurisdictions will
utilize appropriate COG identifiers. Those identifiers that are not
consistent with COG are strictly for use inside Loudoun County. For
example, the engine from Station 611 is operating in Fairfax County,
using the voice ID “Engine 611.” If the Wagon from Station 611 also
responds to Fairfax, that unit would use the voice ID “Engine 611
Bravo.” If Medic 25-3 responds to a call in Fairfax County, that unit
would use the voice ID “Medic 625 Charlie,” regardless of whether any
other Loudoun units are currently operating in Fairfax. If Reserve
Tanker 608 responds to a call in Prince William County, the unit
should be referred to as “Tanker 608 Bravo.”

Mutual aid units operating in Loudoun are expected to use their COG
IDs. To the extent possible, mutual aid units will be tracked using a
CAD ID that resembles their Unit ID. Units from non-COG Delivering
responsive and caring service regardless of jurisdictional boundary.
www.novaregion.org/fire jurisdictions will verbalize their
jurisdiction during voice transmissions. Examples: Berkeley Tower 40,
Carroll County Engine 1-1, Clarke Truck 1, etc.
To assist personnel in tracking these changes, the complete lists of
unit identifiers for Loudoun and Frederick (MD) are attached to this
Information Bulletin.
Personnel are encouraged to review this information and incorporate it
into daily operations.
