Were conducted most of the afternoon today on several channels. One
problem alluded to was the one second delay programmed in the
poratbles to drop the carrier after the key is released. The
dispatcher often starts talking before the carrier is dropped causing
problems.

Another was the "up and down audio" noticed on some portables but not
others.

On an active channel a policeman inquired if he had missed a call
because at a certain spot (Cafe Mezzanote and Rt 2 in Arnold) the
digital went out an d he couldn't receive anything for a brief period.

Sounds like the "big M has some tweaking of their own to do and it's
not all in our scanners.

The Uniden procedures for tweaking AGC values and P25 optimization
have done a lot to improve audio quality on my BCD 396T. It's analog
quality with a good signal. I use a Motorola amplified speaker which
has a lot of bass emphasis which also improves audio quality. Much
improvement was noted also on USNA and Queen Anne's county systems.
The BCD 396T settings are universal.

Some very short transmissions fail to decode at all but that is not
too frequent.

Happy listening, Bob
