There is a dedicated FreeScan forum on the same site where you downloaded the software. Assaf watches and replies on there pretty quick. Registration is free and painless.

I downloaded FreeScan recently in order to prepare for my XT. I'd like some 
information about what all the various error codes mean.  I haven't been 
able to find it.  I've tried downloading the programming from both my 396 
and 996 but get errors.  With my 996 I  get communications error 9 and it 
won't complete the download.  With the 396 I get error 438.  What does get 
downloaded is corrupted and won't save.  Changing the port speed doesn't 
make a difference.
