[Scan-DC] Washington Area Airport Freqs--Final (I hope)

This will be, I hope, the last update to Washington Area airport
frequencies. It now adds data from the FAA's "Airport/Facility Directory"
published only two weeks ago and therefore about as current as
possible. It does not include UHF freqs except for ADW. I've added this
data to the Standard Terminal Arrival Charts sent previously and derived
from is the latest edition of "U.S. Terminal Procedures, Northeast," which
is the FAA's bible on approach, departure, tower and ground frequencies and
patterns. (FAA Product ID BTPPNE from www.naco.faa.gov ).

I have left out the ATIS, Ground Control and other, specialized channels
which are of minimal interest and which don't change often. Comments based
on actual monitoring are welcome.

Reminder that this listing groups frequencies by airport. If you prefer to
group them by what the FAA calls a "facility," then lift out all of the
Approach and Departure freqs and call them "Potomac Tracon," since the
controllers you'll hear on these frequencies are at that facility in Vint
Hill, Virginia, near Warrenton. The actual transmitters are remoted to a
number of locations around the area. (See comment below on this grouping,
though.)

Remember that Potomac Tracon has a few other frequencies, further away from
Washington, used to handle flights into Richmond and other airports. Feel
free to comment and add these frequencies if you monitor them. Again,
pardon the fact that the formatting goes haywire when I send this as
e-mail. Dump the contents into a word processing program and straighten it
out.

BALTIMORE-WASHINGTON INTERNATIONAL

Tower 119.4 257.8
Final Approach (from all directions)	119.7 290.475
Standard Arrivals from South 128.35 270.275
Standard Arrivals from West 123.825 254.25
Approach Control from Northeast	119.0
Approach Control from ESE 124.55
Approach Control from SSE 119.7
Approach Control from West 128.7
Additional Approach Control 126.75
Departure Control 126.75

Discussion on Scan-DC earlier this month among list members near BWI has
frequencies 128.7 and 124.55 coming from transmitters located at BWI.

WASHINGTON DULLES:

Tower for 1R/19L 20.1 338.25
Tower for 1C/19C 120.25 348.6
Tower for 1L/19R & 12/30 128.425 348.6
Approach Control from West 120.45 343.775
Approach Control from
South 124.65
Approach Control from North 125.8
Approach Control from North * 126.1 338.25
Departure Control to South 126.65 350.2
Departure Control to North 125.05 350.2

Notes: * The published Standard Terminal Arrivals to Dulles from the north
use these two frequencies.

My own monitoring makes me think that Dulles is not simulcasting its UHF
frequencies all of the time but is using them when necessary. I plan to
check this further, but you need to be near the transmitters to hear the
UHF in many cases. Comments welcome.

REAGAN NATIONAL:

Tower 119.1 257.6
Helicopters 134.35
Approach Control from South 119.85 323.3 and 322.3 *
Approach Control from West 124.7 338.2
Approach Control from East
Standard Arrivals from East 124.55 317.425
Standard Arrivals from North 128.7 307.9
Standard Arrivals from West 118.675 343.7
Departure Control to West (Low)	118.95 257.2
Departure Control to West (High)	121.05
Departure Control to East (Low) 125.65
Departure Control to East (High)	126.55

Notes: * If these two UHF frequencies are actually one and there's a typo
involved, it's in the book that way. MilAir listeners, please comment.

On those Departure Control freqs for DCA: The "Low" is the initial
departure frequency and takes the aircraft up to 10,000 feet, at which
point the "High" controller takes over and supervises the flight until
handing it off to Washington Center.

ANDREWS AFB:

Tower 118.4 349.0
ILS, NDB & TACAN Approaches 119.3 355.5
RNAV and GPS Approaches 124.0 269.0
Other Approaches from South 128.35 270.275
Departure Control to N & S 125.65 391.1 or 348.725 (the
two FAA publications differ on the UHF freq)
Departure Control to West 118.95 257.2
Andrews Command Post 141.55 378.1
Weather 344.6
AF/USN Reserve Ops 143.8 351.2

Hope this list is helpful. If you're hearing frequencies that I've missed
(other than ATIS, Ground Control, etc.) please let me know by posting to
SCAN-DC. I'll post revisions as necessary.

Compiling this list makes me think I should reconfigure my Pro-106 to make
a scan list for each airport, so that the Approach and Departure Control
freqs will be grouped with the appropriate airport. Right now, I have one
scan list for Towers (handy when meeting people at the airport) and another
for Potomac Tracon. But that means all of the Potomac Freqs are a jumble
and it's hard to tell which airport they're serving. Luckily, with the
object oriented programming of the Pro-106, that change is extremely easy
to do.

Steve, N4TX
