Discontinued Battery Pack at Radio Shack Fits Uniden and Icom Radios

I was at my friendly, local Radio Shack, where I noticed, quite by
accident, that RS has discontinued the 4.8 volt, four-cell, Nickel-Cadium
rechargeable battery pack that fits many models of Uniden, Icom, and
Radio Shack radios. The RSU is 23-9074. The price is $5.97. I bought one
battery pack at the RS at 3425 King Street in Alexandria. Their phone
number is (703) 845-0300. There are a half-dozen battery packs left in
the store. RS sometimes changes the price on its discontinued items on
the first of the month, so these might be cheaper starting on Sunday.

Here are the model radios, listed on the package, that this battery pack
fits.

Uniden:
BC120XLT, BC220XLT, BC230XLT, BC235XLT, BC245XLT, SC150, SC150B, SC150Y,
SC180, SC180B, SC200 

Icom:
IC-T7H, IC-T22A, IC-T7A, IC-T42A, IC-W32A, IC-Z1A, IC-W31A

Radio Shack: 
PRO-90 (#20-520)

There is no copyright date on the packaging. The cells are rated at 800
mAh, which hasn't been state of the art for NiCd for some time. It's
quite possible that other model radios have come along since these
battery packs were first offered for sale and are not listed on the
packaging. I can't find my old Radio Shack catalogs, so I don't know what
these cost back in 2000 or 2001. 

Back in January, I sat down and built a pair of battery packs for my
Uniden SC-180 scanners, using scavenged cells of 600 or 650 or 700 mAh
ratings. Had I known that these were available for the $5.97 I paid, I
would have bought these instead. There's too much labor involved. I also
built a battery pack for my HTX-202. I'm going to see if Radio Shack has
discontinued them too.
