Wow, looking at rally website photos, one sure gets the sense of big $$$.
As municipal budgets tank, I wonder if O&M cost will become a problem. .

Fairfax County Department of Information Technology Radio Services
Center is proud to host our 5th annual Communications Vehicle rally on
May 7th, 2009. You are invited to participate in this communications
interoperability exercise where we bring together communications and
command units from federal, state and local public safety agencies to
participate in interoperability exercises. Please visit
www.Fairfaxcounty.gov/rally to register. We are using the web based
registration again this year to track both vehicle registration and
personnel registration for the rally. We want to ensure that we
provide
enough room for each of the vehicles, and enough food for the
participants. This year's rally will be held at the Fairfax County
Police Department's driver training facility in Chantilly, VA.
When you visit the website, you will see a slideshow displaying a
sampling of the vehicles that participated in last year's event. On
the
day of the rally, we will replace the slideshow with streaming video
of
the actual event as it unfolds. For personnel who can not physically
make it to Fairfax County, VA for the rally, you can still
participate!
In conjunction with the rally, we will host training sessions covering
a
wide range of topics including how to operate & configure different
interoperability devices, using the National Incident Management
System
(NIMS), programming radios, understanding the MIRS system, etc. We
are
presently working on the training syllabus and when it is complete, we
will post it on the website. Training will be conducted Monday, May
4th
thru Wednesday, May 6th. Please revisit the website in April to
register for training.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact either James
Grant, my interoperability manager, at (703) 267-1750,
james.grant at fairfaxcounty.gov, or myself at (703) 267-1741,
james.wadsworth at fairfaxcounty.gov.

Looking forward to seeing you at the rally.
Jim
