At the present time Gaithersburg has two operational beats, Seneca and
Frederick, being west and east of I270, respectively. There is a plan to go
to 6 beats, more detail on this and staffing as it was last summer can be
found beginning on page 8 here:
http://www.gaithersburgmd.gov/Documents/mc_bkd_08/072808_police_ws.pdf
The City now has a full complement of officers, so the requirements for
filling slots with OT is reduced. The City and County share jurisdiction
within the City limits and calls can be answered by either group, or often,
both. There is some debate over what the appropriate shares should be,
given the County does not reimburse the City for providing police services.

I had noticed in the last week or 2 that the K-9's had been switched over, I
also don't know when it occurred, but it's interesting none-the-less. I
don't understand the new numbering system either. As far as the numbers used
to go, in seemed a seniority thing or how long they had been around the
county, or perhaps what rank they held on the team. But I will be interested
if anyone finds out more on this. They have always struggled with the issue
of always having a dog working at all times.
I know when the retired high-ranking MCP officer retired and took over the
Gaithersburg City PD job, they went from the 9-delta-units to the Victor
units that would put them more inline with the county system. 3-victor-10 is
shift Sgt, 4-Victor-3 would be a shift 4 unit assigned to cover beat 3. That
sort of thing. But I don't know how they break of the areas of the city.
Seems often they run calls with the Paul and Robert units from MCP that
cover the same areas.
For Fire Station 22 - I had put a post on here, but for those of you that
missed it, here is what I posted:
MCFRS will begin service from FS 22, Kingsview / West Germantown, on Sunday
February 1, 2009 at 0700. E 722 will be staffed as a four person company
with Advanced Life Support capability and staffing. This service delivery
model will allow for rapid response to both fire and Emergency Medical
Service incidents. On March 1st, we will begin providing EMS transport
service with A 722. This is an exciting time for MCFRS as we continue to
grow and meet the challenges of the up county area. A formal grand opening
ceremony will be held on March 13, 2009 at 1100. Please stop by and take a
look at the newest fire station in the MCFRS family.
And for the Station 28 issue - I found this on the The Watch Desk site:

Subject: Temporary Fire Station 28
Beginning Sunday, November 30, FS28 will begin roof replacement, a 1 month
project.
This will result in the temporary relocation of personnel to 8673 Grovemont
Circle
Because this facility can only sleep a total of 4 personnel, Chief Lohr has
decided to reallocate resources at FS28.
Essentially
A728 will be stored at FS8 and then move to TFS28 from the hours of 0800 to
2000. A728 will then return to FS8 for the remainder of the night.
A708B will operate from FS8 as normal flex unit hours.
The DOC office has decided the easiest way to accomplish this is as follows:
. The two personnel assigned to FS28 on the EMS unit will report to FS08 and
staff A728 beginning Sunday at 0700. The HazMat requirements will follow
these personnel and they will support the HazMat team from FS08.
. The upstaff recommendation for FS28 and A708B will be temporarily removed,
so the station will not be upstaffed during the roof repair.
It will be incumbent upon personnel assigned to FS28 to check Telestaff to
assure they are reporting to the right place each day.

Been meaning to mention, a couple of weeks ago (not sure when!), the
Montgomery County Police canine units' radio calls changed. Formerly they
had numbers like 9-King 17, 9-King 23 (I've never figured out the
significance, if any, of the number after the 9-King part). Now, they are
Canine 17 and Canine 23.

Also, for anyone who may have missed it, Fire Station 22 opened about 3
weeks ago - I can't remember whether there was something posted here... it's
near the intersection of Route 118 and Route 117, or Germantown Road and
Clopper Road (same place!), on Germantown Road I believe. (Germantown area,
of course).
Finally, apparently Station 28 (on Muncaster Mill Road at Shady Grove Road)
has been temporarily relocated while its roof is being replaced... I
_believe_ they are operating out of a warehouse somewhere off Oakmont Avenue
(Dakota Drive?). Oakmont Avenue is just east of Route 355 (Frederick Road)
off Shady Grove Road.
