I heard on the TV or the radio, can't remember, that the DOT will be opening the span on the South Capitol Street Bridge. Becuase it will be open, it will be closed.

Wait, let me rephrase that. The bridge will be closed to traffic while it is open. I mean, while the span is open. I mean ... oh, never mind. Anyway, this might generate some radio traffic, maybe even involve the USCG.

The District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT) is scheduled to close the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge (aka South Capitol Street Bridge) from 5 am to approximately 10 am on Sunday, January 25, 2009. Crews will be conducting the monthly test opening of the swing span on the bridge and making minor repairs if necessary. During normal opening and closing operations, the swing span is lowered and then turned or “swung” around in order to allow water traffic to pass.

The bridge will be reopened to traffic as soon as the test opening and related repairs are completed.
