[Scan-DC] DCFD using E56 & E76

A while back I asked the guys at the neighborhood firehouse (E18 & T7) about
some equipment with higher than usual numbers that I saw in their station.
They said that these were reserve pieces and told me the numbering scheme,
which I don't remember exactly. Something like the first digit is the type:
5x for engines, 7x for trucks, etc. The second digit is the Battalion Chief
whose area it serves: x1 for BFC 1, x2 for BFC 2, etc. So E56 would be
chief 2's reserve engine. It seems that each BFC has a reserve engine and
truck, ambulances are a different story. These were put into use for the
festivities. What I think is odd that if Engine 18, say, is using reserve
engine 52 then they identify as E52 on the air, and not as their "real"
number of E18.
For a while, DC has used ambulance numbers above 50 for special events. I
think that these are often from other companies like Life Star. I hear them
doing roll-call before Nats games, foot races, and other scheduled events,
and the ambulance numbers start with 50.
I wish I could remember the exact numbering scheme for the reserve trucks
and engines, but it is something close to what I described. And I don't
know where the reserve pieces live, but I would guess that it is somewhere
in the BFC's area or at the training academy.

I think you're right about E56 being a reserve that lives in the same house.
I've seen it running before and I also think I've seen it there when E16 was
there. They may well have been running both engines Monday and Tuesday just
as, for example, Gaithersburg used to run E82 in addition to E81 (now E782
and E781) when there was enough volunteer staffing to fully staff two
engines.
