Dulles Airport Dedicates 4th Runway on November 20
First New Runway Since Airport Opened in 1962
Washington Dulles International Airport will celebrate a major
milestone on Thursday, November 20 when the new 4th runway becomes
operational. This is the first new runway to be built at Dulles since
the airport opened in 1962.
U.S. Transportation Secretary Mary E. Peters and Robert A. Sturgell,
Acting Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration, will join
other dignitaries to officially open the new runway. A dedication
ceremony will immediately follow at the new Dulles Airport Fire
Station #304.
WHAT: Dedication ceremony of new 4th runway at Dulles International
Airport
Thursday, November 20
MEDIA ARRIVAL TIME: Shuttle buses to the event run from 7
to 7:30 AM.
Media must arrive before the last shuttle bus at 7:30 AM.
Please check in at the Media Desk in the Fire Station.
PARKING: Follow signs marked “Special
Event” and park at the
Cell Phone Waiting Area to board a shuttle bus to the event
VISUALS: - First aircraft using the
new runway

TV LIVE TRUCKS: Media organizations wishing to broadcast live from
this event from the Fire Station must make firm arrangements in
advance.
No last-minute requests can be accommodated.
SECURITY REQUIREMENTS
All participating media MUST RSVP in advance to the Office of Public
Affairs with your full name no later than 12 noon on Wednesday,
November 19.
Before boarding shuttle buses to the event, be prepared to present
government-issued photo identification AND valid media credentials.
