Steve,
What you want is RadioShack #20-289. This is the serial programming cable
for the Pro-96. I bought mine last year at RS for $4.97. However, this item
is no longer listed on their web site. They may have discontinued it, and
assumed everyone would start using the USB interface cable (20-047, list
price of $32.99, but I think I got mine for $19.99). I have used both
cables, and they both work fine. I recommend moving to the USB cable, unless
your friend is using an older computer that pre-dates USB.
If you find a serial cable still in stock at a RS, make sure it is the
20-289 model. They sell other serial programming cables for scanners that
look like the 20-289, but will not work with the Pro-96. It has to be the
20-289 (or, the USB version, 20-047). Accept no substitutes!
