Here is some additional information:

Washington, D.C.) - The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Homeland 
Security Emergency Management Agency (HSEMA) and the District Department of 
Transportation (DDOT) announce the following road closures and general 
restriction information with regard to the visit by Pope Benedict XVI.  The 
pope is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday, April 15th during afternoon rush 
hour and depart on Friday, April 18th in the morning.



Due to security and safety restrictions, the following roads are scheduled 
to be closed during the specified times.  All routes and emergency no 
parking signs will be posted.  Signs will be placed along the I295 corridor 
to alert residents to the closure of the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge 
on the 17th.  Motorists will be detoured to the 11th Street bridges via VMS 
and detour signs.  DDOT Road Operation Patrols will patrol the corridor in 
an effort to expeditiously respond to incidents that might further impact 
traffic.



Wednesday, April 16th

3pm - 8pm                  Michigan Avenue, NE from Monroe Street to Irving 
Street

3pm - 8pm                  4th Street, NE north of Lincoln Road

3pm - 8pm                  Harewood Road, NE from Taylor Street to Michigan 
Avenue



Thursday, April 17th



Closure Times            Street Closures



2am - 2pm                  South Capitol, SE from I Street to Potomac Avenue

over the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge to Firth Sterling Avenue



10am - 8pm                Harewood Road, NE from Taylor Street to Michigan 
Avenue

4pm - 6pm                  Michigan Avenue, NE from Monroe Street to Irving 
Street

4p m- 6pm                   McCormick Avenue, NE from Taylor Street to 
Michigan Avenue

3pm - 8pm                  North Capitol Street will remain open to cars 
only.  No truck traffic will be allowed from Taylor Street to Michigan 
Avenue.



In addition to these closures the following restrictions will be in effect:



8pm Monday, 4/14 through 5pm Wednesday, 4/16



* No parking on Pennsylvania Avenue between 17th and 26th Streets, NW.
* No parking on Massachusetts Avenue from Waterside Drive to 34th Street.



5pm on Tuesday, 4/15 through 9am Friday, 4/18



* No truck traffic will be allowed on Massachusetts Avenue from Wisconsin 
Avenue to Observatory Circle.
* Massachusetts Avenue from Observatory Circle to 34th Street will be one 
lane in each direction.
