National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week
In Prince William County
April 13 – 19, 2008
Tour on April 12, 2008 10AM – 2PM
The Office of Public Safety Communications Center (OPSC) will be
celebrating National Telecommunicators Week during the second week of
April, 2008. The center's 67 Telecommunicators, handle over 500,000
emergency 911 and non-emergency telephone calls each year for the
County's Police & Fire & Rescue Services.
The center will have an open house on April 12th from 10AM till 2PM.
Residents can tour the center, view special police, fire and rescue
apparatus at the front of the building, and meet some of the
Telecommunicators that answer 911 and non-emergency calls. Safety
information for families will be handed out.
The OPSC Center is located at 3 County Complex Court.  Please pay
attention to signs about reserved parking spots.

Facts about OPSC
Number of employees: 95
Training: eight weeks in the class room and approximately eight weeks
of on the job training
Average length of service: 9.7 years
Top Call Types:  auto accidents, domestic disputes and informational
requests
Positions: shift supervisors, call takers, police dispatchers, fire
and rescue dispatchers
Telephone calls received:  Answer an average of 500,000 (911 and
non-emergency) calls per year. We dispatch on average 125,000 police
calls and 34,000 fire & rescue per year.
