To be more precise (and with these new scanners, you really have to be...) The release of code coming in
the next week or two are FIRMWARE updates, not software updates. Software updates are external to a scanner -
such as updates to ARC396, Scan Control, ect. Think of firmware changes as changes to the brains of a
scanner.
It's easy to mix these two up and cause mucho confusion.

Subject: [Scan-DC] BCD 396T Software Updates
Date: Sun, 30 Mar 2008 23:10:58 -0100
I was talking with Paul Opitz who, is the product manager, for Uniden
scanners. He told me that there were several new releases of microcode
coming for the 396. The first addresses improved audio on mixed mode
systems and improvements for the true P25 systems. This code will be posted
on the Uniden site for registered user within a few weeks.
The second upgrade is to allow the BCD 396T to work with the rebanded
channels. If I have it correct this release is about 2 months out. Unless
you are experiencing the audio problems mentioned above, you are probably
wise to wait for the second software drop. He said that at the moment there
was only one rebanded system in Alabama that needed
the software.
I forgot to ask about the 996 but Paul is really on the ball and I sure the
rebanding code will out at about the same time.
