I will vouch for ScannerMaster Rich Barnett is a great guy and has tons of
AWESOME ideas, products and some of his employees are not bad looking
either. ;)
If you get a Uniden scanner I recommend getting the BUTEL ARC software as it
seems to be easier than the USAD software from Uniden.

Subject: re [Scan-DC] Hello - First Post - And a few questions
Marshall, welcome aboard - I'm in Gaithersburg also, near the corner of
Goshen and Snouffer's School in Montfunkery Village, to be exact. I have 2
friends who are using the Pro 96, the reasons that they bought those are the
local availability thru the RS stores and the fact that they're
pre-programmed... this is as opposed to the Uniden ones, which have a rather
steep learning curve and at least as far as the 796, a downright lousy
manual (nonetheless, I have a 796 and once I figured out how to use and
program it, have been relatively happy. The newer base / mobile unit that
replaced it, I forget the number, is even better.)
At the risk of mentioning something you probably already know, the Pro 96 is
actually made by GRE for Radio Shack so I would suspect that programming is
similar, but not sure... I do know that the new Uniden 396s no longer have
"banks"; they have systems... not sure what the PRO has and whether the new
GREs are similar to the Pros or if they have new technology.
A couple of friends and I are getting ready to purchase the 396, perhaps
from scannermaster.com... their quantity price is $484.95 for 3 - 5
radios... if you're interested in that one at all and would like to go in
with us, let me know.
Private email follows.

Doug
