In an effort to get more activity on this list, here's a question... what do
people scan, and how often?

Here's my own 2 cents:

I scan the Arlington County trunked system all day on work days from my
office, and much of the evenings at home. I occasionally get organized
enough to capture the activity automatically using Scanrec
(www.davee.com/scanrec/) so I can go back and listen to something good that
I missed.

In the car, I usually scan the Arlington system when I'm within reach; and
the Virginia State Police when I'm not. Close Call Do-Not-Disturb is always
on.

I would like to scan a bigger variety of things at the office, but we are in
a heavily RF-shielded building, and very local stuff is about all I can
capture. I am line of sight to National Airport (maybe 5 miles away), for
example, but I can't pick up their tower. Arlington's 800 MHz system gets
through OK, probably from their site on the big water tower north-side.
