If you are in a high signal strength area, the 3+ dB loss will not be
terrible, and actually may help reduce some overload problems. In a high
signal area, I would avoid all active splitters, as they can cause their own
overload problems. If you are in a fringe area, where the signals you want
to hear are weak, and there are no very strong signals that could cause
overload, an active splitter might be OK.
Overall, though, I think KISS is the best policy. If you can get along
without splitters or other gizmos, then it's best.
