It was interesting to see in my snail mail today a letter from OnStar
recanting their persistent "we won't transition your analog car to digital" stance
they have been taking for at least a year if not more. I've even had
printed mass mailings confirming that position.
They are NOW offering to retrofit my 2002 (analog only) OnStar car with a
digital unit for $15, but *only* if you convert it immediately. Kind of late
if you ask me. They had already changed over my 2004
analog-but-wired-for-digital car earlier this year.
I hope they didn't seriously think someone would trade in a car just so they
could have a "digital" phone in it. But then, their majority owner IS
General Motors, isn't it? GM blinked on this one if that was their intent.

As of midnight on February 18, 2008, cellular telephone companies will not
be required to provide analog service. While most wireless telephone users
will not be affected by this transition (often called the "analog cellular
sunset"), some users may be affected. In addition, the transition could affect
some alarm systems and some users of OnStar in-vehicle communications service
