This is probably most due to the fact that the old police chief, Mary Ann Vivarette retired and the new chief that took the job is a retired Mont Co Police officer and he is plugging into them the Montgomery County Way. It seemed for so long the gaithersburg city PD were trying to make themselves an autonomous unit. They changed their uniforms because folks were confusing them with sherrifs dept or worse, as security guards, and they changed their vehicles so they wouldn't look like state troopers (before msp went back to their green and black colors) and then they changed them again to what they are now. So now we see the MCPD influence, I am sure there will be more changes ahead as this new chief forges ahead.

Yes, the is because Gaithersburg PD is now using a two beat system, with
the "Seneca" and "Frederick" beats, divided by I 270. The new designation
are digit-Victor-digit-digit like those for the county. I presume the
first digit is a shift number (1-6) the second tells the beat and car. The
nVictor1m units are on the Seneca(west) beat, the nVictor2m units are on
the Frederick(east) beat. nVictor10 is the Sgt. for the east side,
nVictor20 the Sgt. for the west side. I first heard the new designations
used on October 5.
