My first electronics project was building a Lafayette radio. I think I
used a whole role of solder on it.

What were those glass things called that had 8 metal pins, plugged into
a socket and they glowed?
Radios and televisions used them... the drug stores had machines that
you could use to test them... back when the drug stores had soda
fountains and lunch counters.
There were also places called record stores; they sold these vinyl
disks that had music on them.
Damn I'm old...
