“Public Safety Emergency Exercise”

WHEN:   Wednesday, August 1, 2007
  7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. - public safety activity in the area
8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. -  media coverage

WHERE: Clarksburg High School Rocky Hill Middle School

WHAT: A cooperative exercise which involves staging a full-scale
response as though there was a public safety emergency inside
Clarksburg High School.

 The agencies and departments conducting this exercise invite members
of the media to attend this public safety initiative.  Much of what
will occur will take place inside Clarksburg High School and will not
be open to media coverage.  Primary coverage of what will occur
outside the school will take place in the first hour and a half of the
exercise.

All those covering this event should plan to arrive by 7:30 at Wims
Road off of Route 355.  Montgomery County Police motor officers will
direct the media to parking areas.  The media will be staged along the
Wims Road.  From 8:00 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. there will be a demonstration
of the simulated weapons that will be used during the exercise.  The
public safety exercise itself will begin at 8:15 a.m.  The best
opportunities for video will take place during the first hour and a
half of the exercise.  An opportunity to hear a short debriefing of
the exercise will occur at the conclusion of the exercise which is
expected to conclude between 10:30 and 11:00 a.m.

Beginning in the morning of Wednesday, August 1, and running through
the afternoon, there will be law enforcement and public safety
personnel and vehicles (to potentially include a helicopter)
responding to Clarksburg High School.  Lights and sirens will not be
used by the officers and rescue vehicles responding.

   A police command bus will be parked in a cordoned-off area in the
parking lot serving Rocky Hill Middle School.  Rocky Hill Middle
School will continue to conduct its routine summer activities without
disruption.

Members of the media are invited to attend from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00
a.m.  There will not be a shaded area, so prepare to bring sunblock
and water.
