The DC signal is WNG 736 on 162.45 MHz, originating from an antenna at a
height of 60 meters above ground on a tower near the intersection of Rt. 29
and Peabody St in NW DC. The tower base is at an elevation of about 95 m
above mean sea level. The station transmits with a power of 300 W into an
omnidirectional 8 dBi dipole array, yielding an effective isotropic radiated
power of just less than 1900 W. The station was first licensed in March
2006.
Assuming a 6 mile line-of-sight path to Arlington, the free space loss is
about 96 dB, giving this station an approximate received signal strength
of -33 dBm into a typical 0 dBi scanner antenna, which would be full
quieting. Even with 20 dB of additional shielding due to clutter, the signal
strength would still be a very strong -53 dBm.
