Correction. The cable has a 1/8" MONO plug on one end.

Still works.

Subject: [Scan-DC] Pay $4.97 or $129 for a radio interface

Today I went down to Radio Shack and purchased(more than one) the Scanner
Programming cable #20-289 on close out sale for $4.97.

This is the cable that has a TTL to RS-232 interface builtin to the DB9 hood
and a 1/8" stereo plug on the other end.

This cable was made for RS PRO-96 Scanners to upload and download software
via a SERIAL port. They used to cost between $20 and $30. But, since most
PCs and laptops have gone to USB ports, RS is selling these out.

The cable will ALSO work ON ICOM's. Works on my 756 Pro, 706 MK2, and 7000.
You do not have to pay $120+ for a CT-17 level converter, unless you want
to, or have more than one ICOM to control at once.

It will provide the link from the PC software to the ICOM to control the
radio, ie freq, settings, etc. It is NOT a sound card interface.

I had them check the RS computer. There are at least 40 more #20-289 cables
in the Northern Virginia Radio Shack area.

I have been told that the cable WILL work thru a USB - Serial adapter. I
have not tried that. The interface in the hood needs power from the DB9, so
the USB-RS232 adapter must provide that voltage, some do, some don't.

It's a great price, if you have a serial port you can use.

Remember the sale of RS SONY 16 channel GPS engines for $29? Well, here is
another deal to NOT pass up.
