I don't know about a PDA, but ***YES*** the 396 is computer controllable.
Also in case you didn't know, Uniden is supposed to be releasing a "Remote
Control Head" for the 396/996 that may solve you space problem as well. You
can read more about the remote control head on the Radio Reference forum at

Subject: [Scan-DC] BC 396 computer control question
G'day,
I'm interested in purchasing a 396, but I've got a question. Can a computer
be used to monitor the scanner's operation? I'd like to mount my 396 out of
sight in the vehicle and use my PDA to display information whenever the
scanner stops on a transmission. Space is a concern, so I'd prefer the 396
vs. the 996.
Thanks for your help, and best wishes for a Happy 2007 to all.
Rick
