"Fort Myer Gun Salute To Honor Ford

FORT MYER, Va. -- Fort Myer will honor former President Gerald Ford with a 
21-gun salute and a 50-gun salute Wednesday afternoon and evening.

The 21-gun salute will take place at noon, and the 50-gun salute will take 
place at 5 p.m.

When the 50-gun salute takes place, Fort Myer personnel will fire a 105 mm 
Howitzer once every five seconds. They will use seven different cannon for 
that salute.

Fort Myer officials want the surrounding community to know that the booming 
noise they hear is just the salute and nothing more."

I bet the ECCs get calls on this... one wonders why they're doing it today 
and not yesterday during the funeral...

A _fifty_ gun salute?  Never heard of that before, anyone know anything 
about it?
