[Scan-DC] question du jour of the day

You'd be better off getting that antenna up in the air, rather than in the attic, if you can. You will lose some signal in the attic, depending on the construction of your residence. Normally I'd stay away from preamps, but since you have a 2006, and may be limited to indoor antennas, a small adjustable gain amp like the one Grove sells from GRE might be a useful addition. It can be switched out of line, making it easy to avoid interference problems if you tend to be sensitive to that. The 2006 is an oldie, but a goodie, but it is an older scanner, and the front end is probably not as good as it was years ago. A couple of adapters to mount it properly, and you should be good to go.
It is quite possible that some filtering will be in order; but let's cross that bridge when we get to it.
Since you are in the same area as a well known air scannist who frequents that area; he put up a nice little page on Fort Belvoir that might be worth looking at. It too is available on the wiki article.
As you can easily see, we could fill up 400 memory channels in that 2006 without breaking a sweat. There's a great deal of activity in this area, however it does have its up and down days - some much more active than others. 73s Mike

Yes, Alexandria, four miles south of Pentagon, eight miles west of AAFB.
Antenna is the built in rod, but I have a RS 20-042 (or 200-0042) 5-band
omnidirectional antenna available too, for installing in an attic.

Thanks. Will look at that.
