FWIW,
$519.95 Delivered is *an excellent* price for this scanner. The least
expensive alternative on Froogle is $527, and the BC396's usually go for a
lot more on E-bay. USASCAN claims to give you 60 days to evaluate the
purchase, too.
Thanks for bringing up another vendor for the group to consider!

I have no input on any other aspect of this purchase, but $30 shipping
for a scanner is way out of line. My mom is about to order some fax paper
from Office Depot. OD has free delivery on orders of over $50. A box of
fax paper weighs a lot more than a scanner.
I think even Amazon sells scanners. They have free delivery on orders
beyond a certain price level. I'm not saying you should order it from
Amazon; just pointing out that having the cost of the delivery built into
the price is not rare these days.
