¶ WASHINGTON (AP) _ Two F-16 jets had to be scrambled from Andrew's Air
Force Base this evening after a small airplane flew into restricted airspace
near Washington.
¶ The F-A-A says the single-engine Cessna-182 was intercepted 22 miles
northeast of Reagan National Airport and escorted to the airport in
Gaithersburg, where it landed just after 7:00.
¶ The pilot of the plane is being questioned by representatives from
several government agencies.
¶ A spokesman from the North American Aerospace Defense Command says the
plane was headed from Philadelphia to Charlottesville.
¶ The plane, however, never entered the flight-restricted zone, which is
closer to the center of the District.
¶ There is no word as to how many people were on the plane and if charges
will be filed against the pilot.
