The Pro 43 was the last of the user-modifiable scanners, if you consider
unsoldering and moving a 1mm surface mount diode user-modifiable. I still
have scars on my fingertips.
It was last sold in 1994. And eleven years later, nearly all cell phone
communications are digital, making the modification useless.
At least it's still good for milcom.
