I am one of the alpha/beta team testers for the 246/396/330 scanners so I
can speak first hand on this. You can rest assure that the majority (99% of
the bugs have been worked out, we have one remianing issue on I-call
reception and that is not verified). Most of what is left is nickel dime
stuff and the overall operations with all three scanners is stable contary
to the assertions of some malcontents.
Any additional problems will be resolved at the firmware level (they are not
hardware issues). As for complicated, use the software that comes with it
(free) and you won't have any major problems. To some the radio is
complicated but of the radically different approach to programming systems,
groups and memory channels. Once you throw anyway the banks concept, not an
issue. Took me about three days after I got my initial 246 to change my
mindset.
I love dynamic memory allocation and would not trade it for all the banked
scanners in China. If it doesn't have dynamic memory, I won't buy it, yes
that includes the Rad Shack stuff.
Therefore you should have no issues now purchasing any of the new Uniden HH
radios. There are no major technical issues that could keep you from
purchasing one. Any other rumors about problems are completely unfounded by
people who quite frankly are technologically challenged. Boy was that
politically correct. ;-))))
Have fun and get you some good radios.
