I've never seen one here, "here" being northern VA, which is a little shy
of 39 degrees north. Even so, the lights here would wash out anything.
I did see the northern lights in the vicinity of Yellowstone, almost
exactly 12 years ago. I was driving south towards Teton NP when I saw the
glow in the sky. I was baffled, wondering whatever was the big city on
the other side of the mountains in Idaho that was putting out so much
light. Then I noticed that lights moving, like gigantic curtains waving
in the sky. Remarkable. I do miss them.
