John,
Yea, I looked into the BTO from Dell, Price is not a
big deal but versatility is. Once I obtain these
things I will need to add an additional soundcard and
also an additional card for at least 2 more serial
ports.

What my hope is, I want to be abble to run three
radios simultaneously with each of these 3-4 PCs. Each
PC running 3 radios. I am seriously into MILAIR
scanning and I want to have 1 BC-250 controlled via
TrukStar 785 search 1/3 of the 225-400 Mhz Range. Per
the software vendor I should be able to run this
search via TrunkStar 785 hooked up to the PC via one
serial port. As this scanner hits active frequencies,
it should automatically lockout that particular freq
from future searches, at the same time it should
automatically send the new found freq over to Spectrum
Commander which will be controlling a PCR-1000 via
another serial port. This scanner will in turn record
all audio transmitted on this new found freq until I
can ID the freq.

Then there will be a third radio on each PC that will
do working via yet another serial port and will be
scanning all these known freqs and feeding the audio
into the TeamSpeak Server some of us hang out in so
that others can join in and listen to the audio I am
hearing. Of course this will take a separate soundcard
I am sure.

For me this is a very complex setup as I am not the
most computer savy person around. I am sure I will run
into snags along the way but in time should overcome
these. Should make for one heck of a learning
experience for me.

I am gearing up to sell the house in the near future
and am looking to make a pretty fair profit on it and
expect to end up with about 5-6 K or so that I am
willing to put a large part of into a new shack setup.
But this will include desk(s) PCs and radios.

As far as buliding my own, I have never attempted that
and with my rather limited experience with this stuff
I would hate to undertake that and try to figure out
not only how to build a pc but to build 4-5 of them
and configure them to do something as complicated as I
am proposing does not sound like something I want to
take on.

I do have a few freinds that build computers for folks
and hope to check with them to see if they would be
willing to assist.

Like I was telling Alan Henney the other night. I
should heave just gotten into drugs or something else
like that. I am sure it would be a cheaper hobby for
me to have gotten myself tied up into. ;-)
