[Scan-DC] I need help

I'm not sure what's going on here, but I feel that I must make the following
comments:

1: I get the idea from Wilson Hulley that he's found the BC 796 frustrating
to use, and I agree. I don't think the radio is user-friendly, and I think
the manual is incomplete. I bought mine back before Thanksgiving, and
intended to use it to listen to police and fire calls. While I do have it
up and running (more on that shortly), it has not been without a lot of time
and fiddling around, to say nothing of an additional $40 investment for the
ARC software (with which I am pleased), on top of laying out $500-odd for
the radio itself. I did _not_ buy it for it to get into another hobby (or
project) of programming it.

2. However, with regard to understanding it and programming it, I have
received _lots_ of assistance from some of the people on this list,
including John Wilson. He and others have spent a significant amount of
time with me, via email, sending me files and explaining things. Without
their help, I'd have been a darn sight more frustrated than I am, and I
appreciate it very much.

So, I'm puzzled by the exchange below, and some of the other messages in
this string.

Finally, I know that some of you subscribe by digest, and that it can be
annoying to receive not only a new message in a thread, but all of the prior
traffic as well... but in this case I felt that everything should be
included.
