Another option ... consider using a cradle mount for a handheld scanner, on a 
support post.  The base can be anchored to the floor on the center hump, or 
to the right side of a center console.  It can be easily removed or swiveled to 
lay flat when not scanning.

You can find the cradle posts in a variety of lengths to meet the height you 
want the handheld to sit at.  The best part is that, when you get to your 
destination, you can easily take the scanner with you.
