119.275 is a nationwide AWOS/ASOS frequency. Skyharbor does not use
119.275 for their ATIS. That is on 127.575. East coast to west would
have to be a triple hop E-skip and in 40 years I have never seen a
triple hop opening (double hops are pretty rare), so I have my doubts
that is what you heard Ron. You definitely didn't have F layer as we
don't have the spots to support an MUF that high. And non of the other
modes (Aurora, Meteor, etc) would make it to the other side.

But we apparently had an E-skip opening last night at least into 6
meters. I saw several references to it on AM/FM/TV DX, SCAN-L and a
couple of other list. The opening at one poiunt apparently ran from the
NE US in a SW direction into at least eastern Tennessee/Southwest North
Carolina.

>The only Sky Harbor Airport I could find is in Phoenix AZ.

Actually AirNav has seven airports with the name Sky Harbor:
KPHX Phoenix, AZ, USA Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport
KDYT Duluth, MN, USA Sky Harbor Airport
S86 Sultan, WA, USA Sky Harbor Airport
1MN8 Webster, MN, USA Sky Harbor Residential Airpark Private
92F Chattanooga, OK, USA Chattanooga Sky Harbor Airport
9AK5 Anchorage, AK, USA Sky Harbor Airport Private
9Y5 Eveleth, MN, USA Sky Harbor Seaplane Base

I believe what you heard was an airport talking about Sky Harbor Airport
(KDYT) at Duluth, MN. They have a 119.275 AWOS-3 setup. Still nice skip
Ron but definitely not Phoenix. ;-)

All,

At 1918 EDT, in the middle of some severe summer wx (heavy rain,
electrical,
etc) for about 30 seconds I was hearing Sky Harbor Airport
controller/ATIS on
119.275. The skip came in just at the end of a burst of heavy rain and
stopped
as soon as the rain had passed. The only Sky Harbor Airport I could
find is
in Phoenix AZ.

Perhpas some of the southwest listeners can confirm that this freq is
used at
Sky Harbor.

Around here 119.275 is the VHF side of Bay Watch Control for Patuxent
River
NAS.
