Part two:
The shooting victim will be OK. Well, as OK as you can be after being
shot in the groin or thigh.
Channel 7 WJLA sent Gail Pennybacker out with a mobile truck to cover the
story for the news at noon. (Channel 5 WTTG opened the news with a
segment about the trial of someone who shot a Metro cop. I don't whether
it or the other DC stations have sent mobile trucks to Alexandria.)
The carjackers took the victim's four-door gold Buick and headed south
towards downtown Alexandria, driving south on Patrick Street, which is
one-way northbound. Inevitably, they crashed into other cars. Then they
bailed out around Pendleton or Wythe Streets, both of which are streets
that run east-west. One carjacker headed east, and another headed west.
The nearest available canine unit had to come to Alexandria from Fairfax
County in such a fashion as to avoid the massive traffic tie-up in
downtown Alexandria.
