[Scan-DC] RE: [MilCom] SAM 28000

Had my Icom R10 set up at work, and from about an hour
after they left California onwards until they landed at
Andrews I occasionally had some very weak squelch breaks
from about 350 MHz on up on about 5 to 7 different
frequencies, but because I was working and couldn't always
watch the radio I don't know which ones they were. By
the time I'd turn around to look, the radio had resumed
scanning.

Because we have no outdoor antenna of any kind at the
shop (and are not allowed one so far by the owner of the
shopping center that we are in) I was more or less
"stuck on the duck".  :-)

351.95 was getting hit a lot, and my master list has
a blank spot for just who uses that one.

At approx 3:05 PM local or 2005 UTC, 307.1 opened up
with a full-quieting S9+ signal from UNID aircraft saying
he would squawk 6766, and that he was at 6500 feet and 50
mi NE of Terre Haute, IN.  I have 307.1 as National Guard
Channel 16 here in Indiana, so I'm going to take a SWAG
(Scientific Wild Ass Guess) that this aircraft may have
been with the 181st fighter wing IN ANG from Terre Haute;
OR; was talking TO them.

"Stuck on the duck"; indoors; to get that with such clarity
and strength meant (based upon my experience locally in
general and this radio in particular) that the signal was
so potent that it could blow right through the walls and
roof of our shop; overpower all the electrical noise in
a TV repair facility and still be utterly perfect.....
well, he had to be darned close and/or overhead OR at
a high altitude with a good straight line-of-sight and
a fair transmitter power.

My experience with the Icom R10 is that the receiver in it
is pretty sensitive but that damned duck antenna is a
serious attenuator, so that kind of reception is usually
limited to close proximity or good line-of-sight and 
strong transmission.   Only other time I get this is
when I have it connected to an external antenna.  Doesn't
take much - even a simple ground plane antenna or discone
will unlock the R10's full potential.

The 351.95 signal was weaker and about all I got on the
most copyable transmission was a "push something or other".
That was before 307.1 popped.

Don't know if 181st may have done some escort or CAP during
the transit through central US or not.  I never heard a
peep on any of the freqs that I have listed generically
as AF1 frequencies: 305.55, 322.8, 390.0, 392.6, 398.0,
407.88, 411.7, 415.7.   I'd appreciate any additional 
freq. listings known for AF1 (I see I also have 260.3).

Also if any other monitors within the region may have 
caught that 307.1 or 351.95 traffic.

Wouldn't mind listening to the return trip.....
