Doug,
If memory serves me, I do believe we had discussed this issue. Somehow
Bread Truck 17 comes to mind, but anyhow...
Montgomery County utilizes EMS unit to Hospital Base Talkgroups on its ASTRO
system. In other words, the medic unit uses a radio in the back of the
vehicle to call/consult directly with the receiving hospital. You can hit
up RadioReference.Com for the 6 dedicated hospital talkgroups. Since there
are far more than 6 hospitals in our region, there are TG's which are used
to patch units to EMRC. EMRC will then direct the Montgomery unit to switch
to one of 2 "Consult" groups, which are then used to patch in the out of
area hospital to the medic unit, as the old med/call channels used to work.
Fairfax County, VA also uses a similar configuration.
Howard, Frederick, Carroll, Baltimore Counties and I believe Baltimore City
use talkgroups on their TRS' to patch EMRC call and Med channels directly to
their system. I don't believe these consultations are rebroadcasted on the
UHF Med channels though (I might be wrong, but you yourself said you didn't
hear a peep).
PG County, I believe still uses the tried and true method of the still in
use UHF call/med channels, but I believe they're comms are few and far
between or are of lower power so those of us in upcounty Montgomery cannot
receive them successfully. Please someone correct me or elaborate on PG
County.
Of course, as far as I know, all Medic units still carry back-up EMRC radios
which function on the standard UHF med channels, in the event of a failure
of their primary radios. Again, someone please correct me if I'm wrong on
this. Remember TRS' have failsoft frequencies built in for radio system
failures and I'm sure there's a med channel stuck in that failsoft layout
somewhere.
Hope that helps...
Andy
