The D.C. Air National Guard Tuesday plans a special flyover of
Washington to open a publicity and recruitment campaign, military
officials told CNN.

The flight will involve two F-16 warplanes, and military versions of
the 737 jetliner and Gulfstream corporate-style jet, all of which are
based at Andrews Air Force base.

"We are the protectors of the U.S. Capitol, and we want to tell
the community we are here," said a spokesman for the 113th Air Wing of
the D.C. Air National Guard.

He said the flyover required special permission from the Federal
Aviation Administration and is coordinated with other agencies, and
was scheduled to take place sometime after 11:45 AM, eastern time.

This official did not know the altitude nor speed at which the
planes would fly, but said they would initially come from the
direction of Andrews, over the U.S. Capitol, and toward the National
Mall. He also suggested the publicity campaign would be followed with
photographs and video taken of the Tuesday flight, possibly including
views from both the ground and the air.
