Hello, today I was listening to the DC Fire/EMS trunk system while
commuting home from New Carrolton to East Falls Church. I was surprised
when we went underground and the signal kept coming in strong. I was
able to listen to DCFD until I got to McPherson Square, or there about.
I was curious why I lost the signal after leaving Metro Center? Does
DCFD have repeaters in some of the tunnels, or does the 800 MHz just
penetrate some areas better than others?
BTW, none of the other 800 MHz systems worked underground. (Arlington,
DC police). Of course the Metro VHF is always strong.
(160.38:Orange/Blue ops, 161.385:Metro police).....Oh, this reminds me,
160.38 is easy to copy underground, but above ground it is very
distorted. Is this because there are two or more transmiters above
ground for this frequency.
Thanks, Ken
