[Scan-DC] Antenna Help

I have my power supply hooked up to an APC that corrects the a/c signal to a
perfect wave (supposedly).. If this is true, the noise has to be getting in
through a mismatched grounding on the antenna? The only things I can think
of are that or somehow IF is leaking in somewhere.

I'm using a Yaesu FT-847 which has a built in DSP (don't know how good that
is..) which can adjust the low and high cutoff plus having the feature of
tuning to 6 places after the decimal and has NR noise reduction with 15 or
16 levels and can do NB narrowband AM. I've tried everything to clean it up
as much as possible however I have to sometimes leave the squelch completely
open or turn down the gain a great deal because the airplanes fly right over
my house. I have to turn the internal signal amp to sometimes receive the
ATC, for example DCA Tower. (I hear them on 120.75 much better then 119.1)
This helps a great deal but as I said the squelch will stay open (I cant
scan) and the pilots will be very loud because as a result of turning up the
volume to hear the tower. It's a big compromise and I would like to get to
the bottom of it.. It's hindering my contributions to the group because I
get so frustrated sometimes I just turn it off.

Also, in response to the person who mentioned a fluorescent or dimmer, I do
have a light dimmer in the room and throughout the house but no fluorescent
lights. fluorescent = EVIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to my signal and
eyes!!
bad bad bad! ok I got my point across..

One other project I would like to take on is getting an HF antenna of sorts
set up so I can monitor HF. Again, I have similar problems.. poor signal..
bla bla bla etc.. Maybe I'm just cursed.. I don't know..

help greatly appreciated....!

Thanks,

Jay

: Probably a light dimmer, noisy flourescent light, or touch switch.
: Turning those monostrosties off may help.
: Easier general help might be a DSP audio filter.
