I ordered mine direct from 1-800-TheShack. I didn't inquire about warranty
or upgrade issues because it wasn't a concern for me. I assumed the
standard 30-day RS warranty in the event that there was a problem, and since
LC is Phase I, no need for an immediate upgrade.

I can highly recommend that you get one of these units. The V-Scanner
capability is awesome. If you are not familiar with it, I'll try to explain
very briefly. The radio has 500 memories broken into 10 banks of 50 each.
That alone is not such a big deal. But, with the V-Scanner capability, you
can load those 500 channels ON THE FLY from 1 of 11 V-scanner 'folders.'
Each V-Scanner folder can contain a different set of banks/channels. They
key here is that the folders are all on-board the radio. You do not need a
PC to change between folders. This is an awesome capability if you travel
or visit other areas. Takes about a minute to change folders once you get
the hang of it.

You can get an idea of what's in the pre-programmed V-Scanner folders by
looking at the PDF version of the guide that ships with the radio. MD-DC-VA
info is in Vscanner #6.

The word is that they won't be stocking them in the stores for a while. If
you want one, your best bet is to order direct from 1-800-theshack. If you
get one, go ahead and order the programming cable at the same time (20-289).
I have called every RS in a 25-mile radius. They either have none in stock,
or have them in stock but can't find them. Geniuses!!

Randy
