Hi - not sure about the packets but just had in depth tour of trooper 8 on
monday and discovered they no longer use the wolfsburg radio but a different
manufactur that the medic I spoke to did not know the name of - was asking
about all the jurisdictions that had gone digital and the current plan for
them is that they will continue to use a patch channel to speak w. Those
agencies but that upgrade for 800 digital was avail for their current set up
but wpuld only be phased in as the helos go in for their routine 500 hr
preventive maint trips among all the 8 helos and the 4 spares. Also wantes
to note they have 12 helos in their fleet and they are tge 2nd busiest fleet
in the market and that mspls mechanics of which they have 30 that work round
the clock 7 days a week and that the helo company that makes the dauphone
sents their mechanics to msp to learn because they are so knowledgable. Also
to comment on the fcc restriction about operating on those frequencies in
the air they are granted a special exception fpr not only being public
safety and law enforcement but also because generally their time in the air
and the most common heights that they fly is not considered to be an
interderence issue.
Just some interesting studd to pass on.
