All,

Thought I would share some observations from my recent listening to Homeland
Security comms in our area. Most of these are BGO's (Blinding Glimpses of
the Obvious).

1. I'm hearing much more encrypted comms on the CG VHF marine channels.

2. CG Station Annapolis has upped it's tempo of activity. In the past I
almost never heard in comms unless there was a SAR/emergency in their area. Now
they're active most all the time (157.05) in drills, radio guards, controlling
CG Auxiliary patrols in their area.

3. The CG Auxiliary (vessels & aircraft) has assumed an increased role. They
are conducting extensive patrols most days of the week. In the past they were
mostly a weekend activity.

4. The US Customs comms are now almost all encrypted. Compared to the past
there is very little clear comms--with the exception of the DC area patrols by
the UH-60's at Reagan National.
