Just to add to this thread, I returned from an Alaskan cruise and along with
a Coast Guard escort at times, our ship was boarded by several Coast
Guardsmen with gunbelts and guns. I spoke with a couple of them and they
told me they were "Sea Marshals". Like the air marshal program selected
members of the Coast Guard now ride on the cruise ships from time to time. I
had never heard of this program and was very surprised to learn about it
while on a cruise. Sorry they had two way radios but I never heard any radio
traffic from them.
